Kate Geneva Lee, ďAunt Geneva", passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Hilltop Estates, at the age of 96.
Geneva was born November 2, 1910 at Cozad, NE to Tom Dale Shipton, a farmer and Elsie Wedge Shipton, a teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene Lee, in 1980, sisters: Juanita (Donovan) Deal; Eunice (Joe) Auld; Esther (E. George) Surber, niece Corrine (Bill) Auld and nephew Alan (Barbara) Deal.
Geneva graduated from Cozad high School in 1927, Kearney State Teachers College in 1932 and Grand Island Business College in 1934. She was Clerk of the County Court in Dawson County, Nebraska from 1934 to 1941 prior to moving to Bonners Ferry, Idaho and later Manson, Washington.
She married Eugene W. Lee in 1951 and became a member of the Lake Chelan Fortnightly Club, serving as secretary, president and treasurer. She was also librarian at Manson, WA and office manager at Lake Chelan Community Hospital from 1957 until she retired in 1975.
In 1993, Geneva moved to Gothenburg, NE, making her home with her niece Jan Kauffman and Jan's children Kelly & Brandon.
Geneva leaves behind nieces and nephews: Bob (Sharon) Auld; Bill (the late Corrine) Auld; Jan Kauffman (Auld) and JoAnne Haynes (Auld), children of Joe and Eunice Auld; Jim (Jan) Surber; Tom (Susan) Surber and Ann Green (Surber), children of E. George and Esther Surber; Denise (David) Davis and the late Alan (Barbara) Deal, children of Juanita and Donovan Deal; Sister-in-law Peggy (John) Fish, from Waterville, WA, numerous great nieces and nephews and dear friends Gerald Zook and Margaret Stuart from Cozad, NE.
Those wishing to sign the registrar book may do so on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 9-5 at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
A memorial service, following her cremation will be held Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg, NE with Pastor Randy Dilts officiating. Her remains will be interned at the Riverview Cemetery in Chelan, WA.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church or The Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department.
