Dorothy Augusta Lehn Schick, 98, of Custer, South Dakota, died October 23, 2017 in Custer.

Dorothy Augusta Lehn Schick was born November 15, 1918 on the family farm near Elba, NE.  Dorothy died October 23, 2017 at Custer Senior Living, Custer, SD.  She shared 98 years of life and faith with all she knew.

Dorothy was the daughter of Henry John Lehn and Julia Augusta Naprstek. She grew and attended rural school in Howard County.  Dorothy attended Elba High School, and the  Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Ne, where in 1940 she graduated and earned her teaching certificate.

It was at NSA that Dorothy met her husband Ward Schick. Ward and Dorothy were united in marriage on October 18, 1941 in the Methodist parsonage in Ogallala, NE. They had two children, Sharee Lou and Ward DeWayne.  Dorothy and Ward celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2016. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, card games, visiting friends, fishing, camping, and a lifetime of church activities together.

Dorothy influenced many young children in her lifetime of teaching in many school including District 75, and Moorfield and Curtis Public Schools. She was active in Card Club, Happy Homemakers Extension Club, Curtis Garden Club, Frontier Co Historical Society and Legion 95 Women’s Auxiliary.

Dorothy was a wonderful cook—especially kolaches and pies. She often baked items for family, friends, potlucks, bake sales, and holidays. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting---usually giving away the fruits of her labors.

Dorothy lived a faith-filled life, teaching Sunday School, participating in United Methodist Women, the church quilters, and serving as Lay Representative to UMC Annual Conference and UMW School of Missions many years. Dorothy loved Jesus—and felt his love every day.

Dorothy loved her family, enjoyed entertaining and sharing her stories with anyone and everyone.  Even in the care centers, she made new friends and shared her life and faith.

She is survived by her children Sharee and Marvin Johnson of Custer, South Dakota, and Ward DeWayne and Linda Schick of Grand Island Ne. She also leaves grandchildren Greg Schick of Kennesaw Georgia, Kim Rios of Lexington, Mary Svajdlenka of Crete, and Brenda and Lee Ketteler of Albion.
